Justice Reform

According to the Equal Justice Initiative, the United States incarcerates its citizens more than any other country. Mass incarceration disproportionately impacts the poor and people of color and fails to increase public safety. Police Departments across the country are facing both intense challenges and tremendous opportunities to enhance public safety. Challenges in policy and oversight; community partnerships and officer wellness and safety. While advances in technology have created promising and new approaches to policing

How do we accomplish this?

  • Invest in the Public Defenders' department, in the same manner, we currently invest in the District Attorneys' offices and increase incentives for practicing attorneys to become Public Defense Attorneys

  • Mandate United States Constitutional law courses in all middle and high school social studies/history curriculum

  • Mandate all criminal cases where clients are facing 5 or more years in state or federal prison to be heard in court by a diverse jury

  • End mass incarceration by eliminating the bail system and decriminalizing drug offenses in all 50 states

  • Increase the educational requirement for police officers and establish a federal licensing process

  • Abolish the Death Penalty because it is expensive, based on racial bias, and riddled with error

What else do you think we should do to improve justice reform in America?
